ABANDONED ITEM FROM NAVCON 2008!!! It's been a long time and sorry,
it hasn't been a priority for us, but this is something that needs to be taken care of. We still have an item left
behind by an attendee or judge at our convention in 2008. Before this year's con, we sent out emails about it and
we also made PA announcements at the con itself. No one has come forward to claim
it so we're still holding it for it's rightful owner. If you were at NAVCON 2008 and think you might have left something,
please send an email to navconmail@yahoo.com with a description of what it is. In order to return the item to the correct person, we are asking for this detailed description.
Since it's been over a year, here's a couple hints. It's an ordinary item, not something for a naval game, and it's used for
transporting things. If you reply and your description comes close, we'll get back to you and work out arrangements
for returning the item. Thanks for your assistance.

EVENTS WANTED!!!Well the big day is starting to get closer, so your NAVCON Staff is ramping up on the preparations.
You will notice below in the event section that all the information for the 2009 events has been cleared out and we're starting
to list the events for 2010. And to start off, we have posted the events to be put on by the gamer's gamers, the good
guys at Battlefield Hobbies. Be sure to get to NAVCON early so you can get into one of these.
Any gaming
convention stands or falls on it's gaming events and NAVCON needs more events! We're always looking for events.
The requirements are pretty generous. We're a naval wargame convention so basically it has to be a wargame related
to naval warfare. There are plenty of other conventions for land combat. We'll consider games of amphibious operations,
air wargames if they take place over a body of water, and any other wargame that has something to do with water. Go
ahead and pitch it to us. Contact info is below. Even if you have never put on a game at a convention before,
we're interested in what you have to offer. We have the space, the tables and chairs, and players looking for naval
games. We'll need to know your event title, the historical era, the number of players, the rules set, and a brief description.
Hope to hear from you soon.

WILL THE ITALIANS GET AWAY?Since the last posting, your NAVCON staff has had several sessions continuing the pursuit of the Italian
fleet by the French fleet. The Italians are so substantially outnumbered that even a wargamer would seek to disengage.
It's complicated by the fact that the Italian fleet includes half a dozen old armored cruisers whose max speed is only 17.5
knots. The Italians have turned on the smoke generators and their light cruisers and torpedo boats are sacrificing themselves
as best they can to protect these old tubs. There aren't very many left now and one old cruiser has been damaged.
But a French cruiser that got too close took a critical hit from a torpedo launched by one of the few remaining Italian lights.
The faster Italian battleships took their damage but are now pulling away and might make it. One of their three dreadnoughts,
the Andrea Doria, was lost to a critical hit but they sank a French ship also. In this game system, all the ship characteristics
of speed, armor, and armament become relevent. In other news, two of your NAVCON
staff made it to the Day of Days miniatures convention held in Menomonee Falls Wisconsin last month, hosted by a great bunch
of gamers, the guys at Battlefield Hobbies. The figures and terrain are so lavish that we couldn't help but have a good
time even when the dice went against us, as they usually did. We had a nice visit with them and, as they did last year,
they will be supporting NAVCON with their exquisitely painted ship models in some entertaining scenarios. Check the
website for the 2010 events. We're also in discussions with some others for events including a trireme event and an
ACW ironclads event. But we are going to need more. If you have a naval scenario and need players, NAVCON is your
opportunity. Get it touch with us.

NOW IT CAN BE TOLDYour NAVCON staff resumed play of it's 1914 alterrnative scenario, as described in previous postings.
A complete day of hourly turns had been played without either side making any contact but with the game judge continually
saying, "This is really interesting." The main Italian fleet was proceeding west along the north coast of
Sicily at the start of the war, to intercept the French troop convoys from N. Africa. Italian light forces scouting
ahead, ran into the main French fleet, which was proceeding east along the north coast of Sicily. The lights immediately
broke contact and disappeared. The Italian heavies thought better of trying to fight their way through or evading such
a dangerous proximate force. It turned directly north, through the Tyrhenian Sea, heading towards the French ports of
Marseille and Toulon, where it at least has a chance of intercepting the convoys before they land.
Unknown ot them,
the French fleet also turned directly north and was directly behind the Italians though unseen. Finally the Italians
changed course slightly to get around the island of Elba, off the west coast of Italy (where napoleon had been exciled to
a hundred years ago, that one). It was all the French needed to catch up. Now there was contact and a few shots
were exchanged with only minor damage so far. The Italians have a good number of old slow battleships that have no way
of outrunning most of the faster French ships. A decision will have to be made to either sacrifice the old lags or turn
around the entire Italian fleet and at least take a good part of the French fleet with them. Meanwhile, where are the
Austrians and the British? Stay tuned.

CAT AND MOUSE IN THE MEDWhen we last left off, the French fleet had encountered a force of Italian light cruisers and destroyers
off the north coast of Sicily. The Italians immediately turned around and used their speed to outrun and break contact
with the French. Where there are lights, the main Italian battle fleet can't be far away. But it was nowhere to
be found. We played thru at least another full day which would be 24 hourly turns, without any further contact.
Back before satellites and even before fleets had planes, airships, or long range radar, the Med is a really big place and
fleets are like blind men in a knife fight. When the fleets collide finally, it will be all the more exciting.
There was a report that enemy subs were spotted off the coast of France.
In other news, members of your NAVCON
staff attended the Midwest's premier miniatures wargame convention, Little Wars, and were noticable in their brand new spiffy
bright blue NavCon tshirts with gold lettering. It was good to see so many naval games being set up and played and when
not otherwise occuppied in our own game playing, we tried to meet as many naval gamers as possible to encourage them
to attend and put on their games for us at NavCon. More than a few were previous attendees and judges for us in previous
years and said they were looking forward to returning again this year. We also want to make mention of our long-time
loyal sponsor, Avalanche Press, who was at Little Wars and at this point, is planning on coming again this year. And
all this will make it a better naval gaming experience for all of us. Well that's it for now.

END OF THE BATTLE OF SICILYThe Battle of Sicily was delayed due to the game judge incurring a really bad
cold but this past Friday, he had recovered enough for us to get together again. The British Med fleet of a battlecruiser
and about five or six armored cruisers continued to use it's marginal but ultimately decisive speed advantage over the Austrian
ships to draw away to the southeast. The only Austrian ships that could keep up were the light cruisers and the destroyer
flotillas and these were arrayed in a long column directly south of the main body of the British. Such over-aggresiveness
just had to be justly rewarded, and before disappearing over the horizon, two British light cruisers took the opportunity
to give the Austrians a bloody nose. They charged into close range and proceed to pump 6" rounds into the leading
enemy light cruiser, the German Breslau, serving with the Austrian fleet in this scenario. Having already sustained
some damage earlier in the engagement, down went the Breslau. The Kaiser would nevertheless be proud. An Austrian
destroyer was also sunk. Some 4.7" shells did impact the British light cruisers so they at least paid a price.
The remaining Austrian light forces reversed course on orders since it was obvious that the British Med fleet was out of reach.
Now, where will the Austrian fleet be heading? And will the British Med fleet, having fallen back, be able to get back
to the Western Med and make a difference?
Meanwhile, the French Med battle fleet, heading east along the north
coast of Sicily suddenly encountered an Italian force of light cruisers and destroyers, who promptly reversed course and disappeared
over the horizon. Can the main Italian battle fleet be far away? And that's about it for the current situation
in this alternative 1914 scenario.
