ABANDONED ITEM FROM NAVCON 2008!!!

It's been a long time and sorry, it hasn't been a priority for us, but this is something that needs to be taken care of.  We still have an item left behind by an attendee or judge at our convention in 2008.  Before this year's con, we sent out emails about it and we also made PA announcements  at the con itself.  No one has come forward to claim it so we're still holding it for it's rightful owner.  If you were at NAVCON 2008 and think you might have left something, please send an email to navconmail@yahoo.com with a description of what it is.

In order to return the item to the correct person, we are asking for this detailed description.  Since it's been over a year, here's a couple hints. It's an ordinary item, not something for a naval game, and it's used for transporting things.  If you reply and your description comes close, we'll get back to you and work out arrangements for returning the item.  Thanks for your assistance.

MERRY XMAS FROM NAVCON!!!

Well, your NAVCON staff has been enjoying XMAS like everyone else and we hope yours was as merry as ours.  As mentioned before, there's not yet a go-ahead decision yet for NAVCON 2010 as we're waiting on some hear-backs which we don't expect until after the first of the year.  Meanwhile, you will have noticed a new addition to the website above about an item abandoned at NAVCON 2008.  We really want to return this item so we will keep making all reasonable efforts until we find the rightful owner.

In other news, your NAVCON staff has started it's new 1914 Mediteranean naval campaign, as described in our previous entry.  We expected a lot cat and mouse searching and strategic movement but just before dawn, three hours after the war officially started, light forces of the Austrian navy, consisting of torpedo boats, destroyers, and a light cruiser, heading south from Syracuse, encountered the British Mediterranean sqaudron heading north from Malta.  The Austrians immediately reversed course and rejoined their main fleet.  The British followed and found the perfect target-rich environment, the entire Austrian fleet.  Silly Austrians.  They think that they actually have a chance against the greatest navy in the world just because they outnumber the British at least four to one and because the German ships Goeben and Breslau are also with them.  Don't they realize that their only purpose  is to provide glorious historical victories for the British?  That's as far as we got so far. We'll continue the description in future entries.  That's it for now.  Thanks for reading.  Carry on!

AS OF DECEMBER 2009

Like everyone else, the NAVCON staff is busy this year with holiday shopping and present wrapping and tree decorating and all that other stuff.  We're not actively preparing for next year, but at our bi-weekly game sessions, we are brainstorming for it.

Now don't hold us to committing to a NAVCON for 2010 because the final go ahead has not been yet made.  We're waiting on some "get-back-to-you's" which we don't expect until at least after New Years.  There should still be plenty of time to do what we need to do.

If we do decide to do a NAVCON 2010, one of the ideas we're bouncing around is what, for lack of a better term, we call theme games.  These will be larger than average, multi-player scenarios, that will run all day and into the evening, for true hard-core, can't-get-enough naval gamers.  (Don't worry, there will be meal breaks.)  Our own group is now starting a hypothetical August 1914 Mediterranean scenario that finds the Italians keeping their treaty obligations and joining the Central Powers.  The Italian Navy will actually join forces with the Austro-Hungarians in the Med against the Allies.  Well, stranger things have happened in history.  The rules are modified AH
Jutland, the same as used in the Adriatic scenario at NAVCON 2009.  If you like fast-play and bloody combat, this game is for you, but there are so many ships on each side that it just might take all day to sink them all.  We'll play it out and hopefully, put it on at the con, (if we have a con).

If anyone reading this has any questions, comments, insults, threats, etc., about naval theme games or anything else having to do with NAVCON, feel free to send an email to navconmail@yahoo.com.

Well, that's it for now.

DESCRIPTION
Late in 1940, the Italian navy had been a fleet in being.  However, after the British struck a crippling blow at Taranto, the Italian Admiralty decided that they were better off taking the fight to the high seas.  Owing to early Italian successes in disrupting reinforcement of Malta, the British began sending larger and more powerful convoys.  Such was the case on November 27, 1940 when a strong British convoy was informed of an Italian force closing on their position.  British Admiral Somerville ordered his escort forces to engage the Italian forces.  Vice Admiral Iachino had orders to avoid combat unless it was heavily in his favour.  Will the Italians judge the odds in their favor and engage the British in a decisive battle?  Or can the British escorts close for battle in either case?
